We've Got the Blues Story
It all started...
With the original King Street Blues in Alexandria, Virginia.
After working together for many years for a large national restaurant
chain, Ralph, Doug, and Martin decided "We should be doing this
on our own!" In 1990 Ralph was the first to roll the dice. He renovated
a three story brownstone he found in Old Town Alexandria, VA, just
a couple of doors off King Street. With a vision of "Comfort Food
with a Southern Accent," all that was lacking was a name. He said
"I've found the perfect building in Old Town but I've got the Blues
because it's not on King Street." (the main commercial street in
Old Town Alexandria.) King Street Blues opened a few months later
and has been a hit with the locals and tourists of Old Town ever
since.

What's the deal with all those huge paper mache characters?
The interior has been a work in progress created by over a half
dozen artists. Three quarter life size paper mache characters fill
the dining rooms and the bar has a backdrop of colorful, nostalgic
and whimsical murals. But the heart of King Street Blues is the
menu created around childhood memories of car trips down US Route
1, stopping at wonderful roadside restaurants, not unlike the food
mom used to make at home.
So, what is comfort food with a southern accent? We are
not a BBQ house but many say our slow hickory smoked back ribs,
pulled pork and pulled chicken are the best when smothered with
our signature Mahagony BBQ Sauce. Not to be overlooked is the Truck
Stop Beef Stew or Meatloaf and Garlic Mashed Potatoes. And, of
course, for the light at heart, we also have scrumptious broiled Salmon
cakes, awesome salads and more for those watching their waist line. You
want the southern accent? Try Low Country Shrimp and Catfish, Red Beans
and Rice, Chicken Cordon Blues or any of our great Po' Boys, Burgers with
an attitude, and fine Southern Salads. We guarantee you will be pleasantly
surprised with our fare, we use the freshest of ingredients, and we don't
charge you an arm and leg for it!
Where else can you find the Blues? Doug and Martin joined Ralph in 1997 with the opening of the Kingstowne, Virginia location. Since then they have opened three more locations in Crystal City, VA; Arlington, VA at Courthouse Plaza and Stafford, VA just of Rt. 95 at exit 143A.
